Gospel singer Michelle Williams premiered
the mastered version of her latest single, "Say Yes," on Monday, June
2. She turns a Nigerian praise song into a club anthem with help of her
old Destiny Child girlfriends Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland.
"Say Yes" is the latest single from Williams' forthcoming album Journey to Freedom.
The gospel club jam follows her previous tracks, "If We Had Your Eyes"
and "Fire." For this latest tune, she reunites the gals of Destiny's
Child as they sing their praises to Jesus. An unmixed version of "Say
Yes" was leaked last month, but Williams finally premiered the finished
product today.
"Say Yes" is a traditional gospel hymn in Nigeria. Williams turns it
into a breezy dance track with the addition of African beats and a
slight electronic edge. The heart behind the lyrics is still very much
alive, though, as Williams, Knowles and Rowland let Jesus know just how
powerful He is. "When Jesus says yes, nobody can't say no," Williams
sings in a fiery performance. With Destiny's Child members turning up in
the name of Jesus, "Say Yes" can't be denied and it has very strong
potential to be a gospel song that can crossover to the mainstream.
Williams' new album, Journey to Freedom, is expected to be released later this year. "Say Yes" with Knowles and Rowland is now available on iTunes.
